The book is laid out with visual cues that make it easier to use.
Sections: Each section starts on a new page. This results in some additional “white space” but makes it easier to absorb and reference the rules.
Headers: Each page has a gray-shaded header that includes the section (and all sub-sections) presented on that page. A “c” indicates that the section is continued from a prior page. The header also includes a d20 icon with a number inside (see below).
Footers: Many pages have gray-shaded footers. There are separate footers for related topics (which identify other sections in the text closely related to the current topic), abbreviations (which identify new abbreviations introduced on that page), and resources (which identify outside resources that offer additional information about the concepts introduced on that page).
Call-Outs: On some pages, text is called out with a separate frame marked by a bullseye icon. These call-outs present examples of the rule described in that section.
d20 Icon: The icon contained in the header allows you to play the game even if you do not have a d20 at hand. Use the icon when a check is called for, i.e., whenever you would normally roll a d20. The participant making the check declares “right” or “left” and then opens the book to a random page. The participant uses the number inside the d20 icon on the page corresponding to the declaration.
